SpotOn - Engineering Manager - Java/Python

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead teams in building and supporting high-availability, real-time systems that provide a critical competitive advantage to our customers. As a leader, you will drive your team to achieve optimal output while fostering a strong team culture and ensuring the professional growth of each team member. You will specifically: Lead the development and maintenance of systems crucial to payments operations, transaction processing, and merchant deposits. Balance technical leadership with people management, ensuring both individual and team success. Influence broader leadership decisions, aligning team efforts with the company's strategic goals. Solve complex scalability challenges in a dynamic environment to support small business growth. Responsibilities : In broad terms, you will develop and execute a management program that : People Management : - Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment. - Provide mentorship, coaching, and career development opportunities for team members. - Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback. - Recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent. Project and Delivery Management : - Plan, execute, and deliver projects on time and within budget. - Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable systems. - Manage project dependencies and risks effectively. - Establish and maintain clear communication channels with stakeholders. Technical Leadership : - Provide technical guidance and direction to the team. - Participate in architectural discussions and design reviews. - Ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards. - Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and practices. Strategic Alignment : - Align team goals with overall company objectives. - Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making. - Identify and advocate for opportunities to improve systems and processes. Daily Activities : - Conducting one-on-one meetings with team members. - Participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives. - Reviewing code and providing feedback. - Collaborating with product managers and other stakeholders. - Troubleshooting and resolving production issues. - Analyzing system performance and identifying areas for improvement. - Mentoring engineers on design and development. - Working with recruiting to interview potential candidates. Qualifications : - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred). - Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Team Lead, preferably in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. - - Strong understanding of software development principles and practices. - Experience with building and supporting high-availability, real-time systems. - Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to effectively manage and motivate a team. - Experience with agile development methodologies. - Experience with financial systems, or payment processing is a strong plus. - Proven ability to deliver high quality software. - Ability to work in a fast paced enviroment. Tech Stack (Financial Services): - Java, Python, Go - Kafka, RabbitMQ - PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Redis - AWS, GCP, Azure - Docker, Kubernetes - CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Gitlab CI, or similar.
