Job Description

LOCATION : Effingham, Surrey SALARY: £23,210 - £24,818 per annum JOB TYPE: Full time, Permanent HOURS: 40 hours a week, Term Time only In this SEN Teaching assistant role, you will play a crucial role in supporting autistic students aged 11 – 16 who have associated behavioural and communication difficulties, and some with multiple learning difficulties. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a significant impact in the lives of students with special educational needs. Day-to-day of the role: Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT. Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes. Support positive behaviour and concentration levels of the children and adapt own behaviour and responses to any change or escalations in behaviour of the children. Establish a positive relationship with pupils to support them in feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn. Promote and encourage independence and personal development while maintaining high expectations of behaviour at all times. Implement, and when appropriate, adjust learning activities as agreed with the teacher. Support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the teacher. Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers and support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning. Required Skills & Qualifications: Experience working with SEN in an employed or voluntary setting. A recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in Support work for Teaching and Learning in Schools or an equivalent is desirable. GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential. Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures. Knowledge or experience of pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD. Ability to provide consistent support to our children. The desire to put the child first and treat them as an individual. Be positive and creative in assisting to meet pupils’ individual needs. Ability to take part in the school’s behaviour support approach, including physical intervention (accredited Team Teach) where necessary and always as a last resort.
