Job Description

Who You Are Possess substantial experience in motor vehicle technology, specifically for cars, light goods vehicles, municipal vehicles, and parks equipment. Skilled in hydraulic, welding, and electrical repairs with diagnostic abilities for maintenance work. Flexible and adaptable to the changing work environment including shift patterns. Comfortable working in a variety of physical conditions, including confined spaces and at different heights, with proficiency in using inspection pits via ladders. Proficient in using computer systems for recording work and checking vehicle history. A team player with strong collaborative skills. Desirable to be a qualified VOSA MOT tester for class 4 and 5A and possess an LGV class C driving license. Commitment to health and safety and continuous professional development, ideally with City and Guilds qualifications in motor vehicle maintenance. What the Job Involves Service, repair, and maintain a variety of vehicles and equipment in line with legislative requirements. Conduct risk assessments and safety inspections on all vehicles, including specialized ones like refuse collectors and sweepers. Coordinate with suppliers to ensure value for money and manage stock levels in the stores area effectively. Provide roadside assistance for breakdowns and manage recovery if necessary. Handle general fleet electrical work, welding, and minor repairs, reporting damages and ensuring warranty claims where applicable. Conduct inspections and testing of returned vehicles from contractors to ensure satisfactory repair work. Perform statutory testing for light goods vehicles and cars, issue certificates, and manage payments, including seatbelt checks. Inspect new or hired vehicles and perform MOT testing as per VOSA standards. Maintain workshop cleanliness and conduct steam cleaning as needed. Engage with internal council departments, external contractors, and the public, while ensuring work aligns with health and safety standards and information security policies. Support staff induction, provide on-the-job training for colleagues, and ensure compliance with equality, diversity, and safeguarding standards.
