Senior Software Engineer, Web Experience Nando’s has been in the UK and Ireland since 1992 and we’ve grown from a single takeaway store in Ealing, London to over 450 restaurants across all locations. You will be joining a tech team that has grown in the past few years and is determined to enable change within the restaurant industry by bringing innovative thinking and the latest technology tools and practices to solve some of its most complex problems. The Web Experience Team We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Web Experience team. Our remit is to bring the Nando’s brand to life with a brilliant web presence. Our current focus is making the Customer Online Ordering journey for Delivery, Collection and Order at Table world-leading. You’ll be building the web application that thousands of customers use daily to order their PERi-PERi Chicken and Chips, integrating with the APIs built by the other domain teams within the Customer Digital space and supported by the Design System, Data and Infrastructure teams. We also look after the Nandos.co.uk web presence, with a goal to replatform in the coming year. Responsibilities You will: Work with agile cross-functional teams to design, develop and maintain innovative and responsive client-side applications using modern web technologies and frameworks Work with the Nando's design system to bring the components, patterns and approaches to the online ordering journey Ensure the development of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code that meets performance, accessibility, and security standards Mentor and coach junior engineers in modern web technologies and development best practices to help foster a culture of collaboration and innovation Actively participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes to ensure high-quality software development practices Collaborate with the technical lead on the team’s engineering strategy and technical roadmap Skills You have: Strong foundations in client-side engineering best practices, including accessibility and web performance Experience building websites using modern frameworks, libraries, languages and tooling such as React, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, Jest and Playwright Familiarity with state management libraries such as Redux, Recoil or MobX Experience with deploying Web Applications to a cloud environment, using Infra as Code A passion for mentoring and coaching junior engineers Fantastic knowledge-sharing skills to effectively communicate technical concepts in a variety of formats A proven ability to build relationships with technical peers and other stakeholders Opinions on Engineering Principles, Patterns and Architectures that hold up against the test of time, focusing on lean delivery with long term maintainability An ability to advise on engineering choices and present those choices and considered alternatives in a clear and concise manner An understanding of the importance of constructive feedback to improve code quality and team performance Experience with testing strategies, including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing You might have: Experience in working with modern CI/CD and cloud environments - we use Cloud Run, Cloud Build, GitHub Actions and Terraform Experience working with Next.js App Router, Server Components and high performance API routes Familiarity with observability tools and techniques, such as logging, monitoring, and tracing A full-stack skillset that allows you to cross team boundaries and support our Rust and Go APIs or build out infrastructure at scale Experience in domain-driven architectures You are: Kind and empathetic, encouraging others to do their best work and building a psychologically-safe, happy workplace People-focused with a strong interest in mentoring and supporting junior engineers A great communicator who can tailor conversations to your audience at all levels of the business Passionate about client-side web development and staying up to date with the latest technologies and trends Experienced in building and deploying web applications with a focus on scalability, maintainability and security Everyone is Welcome At Nando’s, everyone is welcome.
