Job Description
Who You Are You are a flexible and professional individual with a strong commitment to delivering quality service in a school environment. Although no formal qualifications are required, you should have the necessary training and skills in areas such as Allergen Awareness, Level 2 Food Safety, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Nutrition, and Customer Care. Possessing cooking ability and an ability to communicate in Welsh are desirable, while good interpersonal skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and to show initiative are essential. You should be willing and able to travel across the County Borough to perform your duties, demonstrate commitment to Equality and Diversity, and have an understanding of the importance of Welsh Language and Culture. You should also display a hygienic and professional appearance and be open to flexible working hours across various sites within the county’s 70 schools. What the Job Involves This role involves undertaking general kitchen duties including the basic preparation and simple cooking of food, such as snacks and other meal components. You will be tasked with transporting and serving meals to customers, completing HACCP records, and managing general kitchen and dining room duties like washing up, setting up and clearing away food, and moving tables and chairs. Additionally, responsibilities extend to cleaning kitchen areas and equipment, ensuring that corporate policies and procedures are followed, including health and safety, risk management, and financial regulations. You will report to the High School Catering Manager and work within the Catering section of the Assets & Economic Development department to provide a school meals service. Although your primary focus is not direct public interaction or service in Welsh-speaking communities, aligning with council policies and pursuing training and appraisal opportunities is expected. You will also promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults in your daily work. The role requires a commitment to equal opportunities and safeguarding practices.
