Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Chef to join our friendly and supportive team at our Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. With just 20 pupils, we pride ourselves on creating a nurturing environment where the nutritional and dietary needs of our students are met with care and attention. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing nutritious, delicious, and enjoyable meals to our students and staff, ensuring that dietary preferences and needs are fully catered for. Key Responsibilities: Meal Preparation: Plan and prepare balanced, nutritious meals that meet the dietary requirements and preferences of our students. Shopping & Procurement: Manage the procurement of fresh ingredients and supplies, ensuring items are of high quality and within budget. Food Hygiene: Maintain excellent food hygiene and safety standards in the kitchen, adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations. Menu Planning: Develop weekly menus that are varied, healthy, and appealing to children with different dietary requirements and preferences. Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain kitchen inventory, ensuring all necessary items are in stock and minimizing food waste. Collaboration: Work closely with school staff to accommodate any special dietary needs, allergies, or preferences for the students. Cleaning: Ensure the kitchen and dining areas are kept clean, organised, and safe at all times. Qualifications & Experience: Proven experience as a chef or cook, preferably in a school or similar setting. Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations. Ability to plan and prepare meals that meet nutritional guidelines. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Compassionate and understanding of the needs of children with special educational needs. Ideal Candidate: Passionate about cooking and nutrition, with experience preparing meals for children or those with special dietary needs. Kind, empathetic, and patient, with a desire to make a positive impact on the students’ well-being. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible, with the ability to adapt to the needs of the school and students. Previous experience working in a school or care setting is desirable.
