FITNESS SPECIALIST -16 HOURS Position SummaryFor over 35 years, North Hill, a not-for-profit senior living community located in Needham, Massachusetts, has provided vibrant living opportunities to people 65 by offering a host of hospitality, wellness and health care services.The PurposeFULL Living Fitness Specialist participates in all aspects of the Fitness Center facilities and programs for Crescent Heights Independent Living. The Fitness Specialist directly evaluates, assists, and supervises Residents to ensure the safety of each individual. Job Specific DutiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.• Develops, designs, implements, leads, and participates in all fitness programs and classes to enhance the Resident experience • Performs facility orientation and baseline fitness assessments for new Residents, Heights Club Members, and Team Members• Screens Residents for appropriateness regarding participation ability• Assists in finding ways to motivate Residents in a safe and supportive environment for the individual to reach their fullest participation• Supervises to ensure enforcement of safe practices and conduct of Residents on proper exercise techniques while using fitness equipment• Creates and uploads programs for the HUR strength and balance equipment and cyber cycle and interprets reports• Provides Personal Training to Residents who request this additional service• Interviews Residents to learn past and present preferences, interests and fitness goals• Assists in researching and writing articles on health and fitness topics and participates in Health Talk presentations• Contributes to new and ongoing programs; including tournaments and outdoor programs and off campus activities• Performs all opening and closing procedures for the pool and fitness area; monitors participants using these areas• Assists in compiling retention and usage data of Residents and Team Members for outcome measurement purposes and annual report data• Ensures that the exercise equipment is clean, safe and in proper working order and provides recommendations for new or replacement equipment or fitness accessories• Assists in creating the monthly calendar for Fitness classes, speakers, special events, and pool schedule• Ensures that the common areas are neat, organized, inviting and safe• Assists with coordinating and facilitating volunteer opportunities for outside individuals and groups• Participates in planning and organizing events, including reserving conference space, submitting function requests, ordering supplies, and coordinating with other departments• Shares resources and skills with all communities at North Hill, as appropriate, which may include supporting other departments when necessary• Provides caring, thoughtful and engaging service at all times• Communicates any challenges, complaints or service difficulties to immediate supervisor• Completes written or electronic documentation in a timely manner• Meets department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements• Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environmentEducation and Experience• Fitness Certifications (Personal Training and Group Exercise) or a Bachelors in Science in Exercise Physiology or related concentration• We will provide a Shallow water Lifeguard Certification • Proficient in technology • Maintains Fitness, Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications• 2 years' experience in senior living or hospitality setting preferredPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday• While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk and hear.
