Job Type Full-time Description Job Summary The Wellness Educator at Minnesota Independence College and Community (MICC) is responsible for working directly with participants by teaching life skills and supporting participants in their acquisition and use of these skills in the areas of nutrition, fitness, and activities of daily living. Educators play an integral part in the process of developing participant goals, individual service plans, and promoting a culture of wellness across the program. Schedule Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday, working one evening a week Essential Functions To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Collaborate in the design and implementation of goal-driven support plans for participants in the areas of independent living skills and wellness skills Skill assessment and creation of individualized accommodations for participant skill acquisition Build positive relationship with participants to provide motivation centered on trust and person-centered practices Demonstrate independent decision-making, planning and follow through Maintain effective and professional communication with individuals inside and outside MICC Other duties as assigned Duties & Responsibilities Skill Development, Instruction and Goal Development An ILS & Wellness Educator is specifically involved in the following areas of instruction: Cooking, Meal Planning, Grocery Shopping, Cleaning, Organizing, Laundry, Fitness, Schedule Coordination, and Shuttles to Grocery Stores and the YMCA Plan, prepare, and deliver updated instruction and coaching that facilitates active learning and is aligned with best practices Plan, prepare, and deliver high quality activities that facilitate experiential learning models Follow prompt fading progression schedules and plans and implement clear assessments to determine participant progress Service Delivery and Communication Support participants by establishing clear expectations and aligning services with the participant and community handbook Support participants by establishing guidelines and expectations, procedures, and establishing the three R's in individualized learning environments Utilize online learning platforms and other relevant technology to supplement instruction and participant communication Goal Oversight and Documentation Document participant attendance and performance in data tracking system Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law and/or MICC policies Use progress reports to identify individualized participants needs and adjust instruction to support their growth Observe and evaluate participant's performance and development Service and Program Support Identify any participants with needed accommodations and collaborate with the advisors on an implementation plan Ensuring equitable access to opportunities and for all participants Collaborate and consult with family members, advisors and community organizations Communicate necessary information regularly to participants, colleagues, and advisors regarding participant progress and participant needs Requirements Education & Experience Possess a Bachelor's degree in Education or Special Education, Youth Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or working toward such a degree or possess equivalent experience Experience in working with adults with learning disabilities and/or previous experience educating, coaching, or providing 1:1 services is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
