Kitchen Assistant Job Title : Kitchen Assistant Location : Colchester Job Purpose: To assist, as directed, with all aspects of food and beverage preparation to meet required standards. Duties: Deputise for the Catering Manager when necessary (primary schools only). Prepare and cook food for students. Prepare food for other schools within the organisation. Serve customers at the counter, hatch, or kiosk as required. Undertake cleaning duties, including light and heavy equipment, walls (up to 6ft.), floors, fixtures, utensils, and more. Ensure tables and counters are clean and adequately stocked during service times. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in compliance with statutory and organisational regulations. Attend training and meetings as required. Assist with special functions that may occur outside normal working hours. Report customer comments or complaints and take remedial action where appropriate. Report incidents such as accidents, theft, damage, or unfit food immediately and take necessary action. Carry out additional duties as required by the role and in line with your skills and grade. General Responsibilities: Engage in the performance and development review process to identify opportunities for learning and training. Adhere to health and safety regulations. Person Specification: Qualifications & Experience Experience in preparing and cooking simple food and beverages. Experience serving customers and undertaking cleaning tasks. Basic level of education and understanding of school operations. Skills Basic literacy, numeracy, and ability to use kitchen and cleaning equipment. Good communication, organisational, and time management skills. Working with Others Ability to build respectful relationships with children and colleagues. Teamwork and understanding of others' roles within the organisation. General Commitment to equality, health and safety, and child protection. Preparedness to learn and develop professionally.
