Serves as a volunteer for the City's Summer Day Camp Program. This is a temporary volunteer position, which carries no employee benefits or paid time off. Campers are ages 6 through 13 years of age.

Salary: Volunteer position

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, between 7:15 AM and 6:15 PM (the actual work schedule and specific number of hours worked may vary). Duration of the summer program: May 28, 2025 through August 1, 2024.

Work Locations:
•Recreation Complex: 4455 Sol Press Blvd. Coconut Creek, FL 33073
•Community Center: 1100 Lyons Road Coconut Creek, FL 33063

Must be available to work for the entire program at the assigned location. Mandatory orientation for those selected for this position is scheduled for the week of May 28, 2025. Specific locations and times will be announced at a later date.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interacts with campers and staff in parks/facilities.
  • Observes and respects all policies, procedures, staff, and campers.
  • Performs park/facility maintenance, such as garbage removal, and policing debris.
  • Attends all camp field trips
  • Assists in planning and organizing games & activities.
  • Assists with overseeing and controlling assigned age group.
  • Assists in gathering members of groups for participation in each specialized activity.
  • Assists in issuing & collecting of games and equipment.
  • Escorts campers onsite (bathrooms, pick-ups, etc.) and during field trips.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 14 years of age by September 1, 2025, and entering at least 9th grade by the 2026-2027 school year.
  • Must have the desire to work in the summer camp environment.
  • Must be available to work for the entire duration of the summer program.
  • Must have the ability to interact with children effectively.
  • Must have the ability to ensure cleanliness of parks and grounds, and identify potential problems in a camp setting.
  • Knowledge of park and recreation activities is a plus.
  • Previous volunteer experience in a recreation setting is preferred.
  • Babysitting experience is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Possess the ability to effectively communicate verbally and understand written instruction.

    NOTE: Finger printing is required; all fingerprints will be checked through the State of Florida's Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) as well as through the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

The employee must occasionally lift and or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distant vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
