Job Description

Chartwells is a part of the wider Compass Group family dedicated to higher education sites. We're looking for a Chef De Partie (CDP) to join our team at Northumbria University, working within the central production kitchen helping prepare and serve food across the campus outlets, hospitality and events.

This role is contracted to 40 hours a week and working 5 days over 7. As a guide for shift patterns, the operating hours vary between 6am-9.30pm on weekdays and 11am-7.30pm on weekends during term. Please note, operating times are subject to change for business or outside of term time.

Some key responsibilities will include:
  • Run a section of the kitchen to the required standards, taking pride in your work and ownership over your area
  • Prepare, cook and present dishes to the required standards and portion specifications within your section/speciality
  • Lead any commis chefs or kitchen assistants working in your section, using your expertise and skills to coach where needed
  • Work within the kitchen structure as part of a team to deliver the best food and service possible, adapting to situations as needed for team success
  • Comply with all client and company health & safety procedures and standards at all times including adherence to food information regulations and food safety checks
  • Ensure food is stored correctly to minimise waste
  • Assist with the processing of food orders
  • Assist with the receipt and storage of deliveries
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all kitchens and surrounding working areas
  • Ensure the correct use of all machinery and equipment
  • Perform other general tasks to support effective food service delivery as reasonably requested


Our ideal Chef De Partie will have:
  • Strong cooking skills - able to prepare complex food dishes in a refined way
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Passionate about great food
  • Able to work positively with others as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to work to brand standards and set menu specifications
  • Ability to follow policies and processes including, but not limited to, health and safety practices
  • Commitment to following best practice in food allergen safety


Essential

Desirable
  • NVQ Lvl2/3 in professional cookery or equivalent
  • Basic or Intermediate food hygiene Lvl2/3
