The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) - Field Technology Support/ IS Data Services Professional at our offices, in Rhinelander or Madison, WI.

Position Summary
The Field Technology Support position works as part of a team of IT professionals to support field operations for the Divisions of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP), and Forestry (FR). This position works under the guidance of the Field Technology Support Coordinator and provides technical support and training to support field staff work (reporting, mapping, mobile data collection, general technology use). The position requires knowledge and experience in IT/GIS/GPS and understanding of habitat management practices and terminology, with a desire to help staff make efficient use of technology. The primary customer base for this position includes DNR habitat, pesticide, and prescribed burn management practitioner across the state.

Salary Information
This position pays between $24.00 - $29.00 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 07-35. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

Special Requirements:
1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin resident is a person who:
a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;
b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;
c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or
d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c)." s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.
2) Background Checks: The Department of Natural Resources conducts criminal background checks on final applicants prior to a job offer. Please note that a criminal charge or conviction on your record will not necessarily disqualify you from state employment. In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the DNR does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
3) Eligible to work in U.S.: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. The Department of Natural Resources does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. - Provide technical support of GIS software, select mobile applications, data dictionaries, and custom reporting tools
- Support field staff work through consultation, research, material development, and training
- Research, resolve, and document technical problems, issues, and trends
- Maintain issue tracking and resolution systems
- Research, test, and recommend mobile applications for field use
35% Training
- Identify business area IT training needs and develop training for field staff of varying technical skill
- Design and develop technical procedures and manuals to train staff to use select IT applications, GIS editing principles, reporting, analysis, and management techniques.
- As part of a team, conduct or evaluate training in custom or COTS applications
20% Project Participation
- Conduct custom or COTS application testing (eg WisFIRS Public Lands, mobile apps for field data collection)
- Participate in requirements gathering, design, and testing of IT and GIS applications to provide a field and training perspective

Qualifications
Required:
- Knowledge of customer service concepts and strategies with strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge and skill related to formal and informal technical training of adults.
- Knowledge of the specific functionality, operation, and appropriate applications of GIS software and GPS technology in natural resource management.
- Ability to create and edit on-line help documents and training manuals to be used in various stages of the application development process.
- Ability to communicate technical information orally and in writing to a non-technical audience.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of habitat management.
- Knowledge of field data collection procedures (e.g. surveys, inventories, etc.).
- Knowledge of DNR's WisFIRS Public Lands application
- Experience working within a team atmosphere.
