The City of Torrance is recruiting for an Administrative Analyst to be part of the Torrance Police Department Team!

The Division (Detectives)

The Detectives Division consists of the Crimes Persons Section, Crimes Property Section, Youth Services Section (School Resource Office Detail, Beach Patrol), Economic Crimes Section, Forensic Identification Section, Crime Analysis Unit, Forensic Computer Lab and Diversion Section. The Detectives Division is responsible for investigation of property, force-related, economic, juvenile and high tech crime, crime trend tracking and analysis, and juvenile/ family counseling programs.

The Position (Detectives)

* Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as logs, bulletins, reports, maps, graphical presentations, staff reports, penal, vehicle and municipal codes;
* Find, compile, analyze and validate credibility of information and data;
* Develop and test hypothesis, forecasts, and predictions regarding criminal activity;
* Assist in the development of tactical and strategic responses to criminal activity;
* Operate a variety of computer software applications, including mapping, graphing, charting, data-bases, spreadsheets and others;
* Prepare and maintain a variety of data, records, reports, bulletins, and correspondence;
* Read, understand, interpret, and apply law enforcement codes and regulations;
* Make verbal presentations;
* Possess knowledge of social media
* Stays up-to-date with current best practices and procedures for crime analysis and their application to UCR reporting, NIBRS reporting, RIPA reporting, hate crime reporting, and other law enforcement uses. Identifies current best practices in public policy, public administration and criminal justice, including the elements of crimes, and effective techniques and information sources for research, analysis and statistical analysis.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills would be acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:



A Bachelor's Degree from a college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field AND at least one (1) year of related professional experience.

OR

Two (2) years of related college course work AND four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative or analytical experience.

Successful candidates will possess the following:

* Be proficient in MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access);
* Have the ability to monitor and track divisional workloads and projects, identify issues and trends, and make recommendations to ensure accurate and efficient operations;
* Demonstrate the ability to perform research, and analyze and communicate data;
* Exercise sound judgement and strong problem-solving skills;
* Be an affective communicator with the ability to convey clear and succinct messages verbally and in writing;
* Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Written Exam 30% Thursday, October 17, 2024

Performance Exam 30% Friday, October 25, 2024

Oral Interview 40% Friday, October 25, 2024



Examinations will be conducted on a periodic basis depending on the needs of the City and the number of applicants.



Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation to be considered for hire. The background investigation will include job and personal references, arrest records, credit history, use of controlled substances, medical evaluations, and a polygraph.
