Job Description
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay. Perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Utilize journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is a little-known jewel in the National Park System, supported by an enthusiastic and creative staff. In the northwest corner of Nebraska, 25 miles south of Harrison, on the Niobrara River. Park features quarries that contain numerous, well-preserved mammal fossils from the Miocene Epoch, and a museum containing the Cook Collection of Plains Indians artifacts. Summer temperatures are generally in the 90's and days are generally sunny and dry, with occasional afternoon showers. Winter temperature will occasionally drop below zero, with varied amounts of snow fall. The park is 50 miles north of Scotts Bluff National Monument and the towns of Scottsbluff and Gering, Nebraska, a center for regional shopping, education, commercial air service, and medical services. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound in the area. The park is about a two-hour drive east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and two hours south of the South Dakota Black Hills. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: (SCREEN OUT) This position requires that the incumbent possess a Driver's License. (SCREEN OUT) Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision for the Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-9 position at the journeyman level. At this level, I perform the work with a high level of independence. I have performed at this level in two of the following trades: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Water Treatment Plant Operations, or Roofing. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Vehicle Operation If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
