POSITION TITLE: Cook

Department: Nutritional Services

Reports to: Production Manager; CPMO

Date: 9/15/2022


Mission of Department:

To provide attractive, nutritious, cost effective meals to meet the nutritional and therapeutic needs of those we serve.


Purpose of Position:

To prepare and serve attractive, nutritious meals, following food service sanitation principles.


Essential Functions:

Responsible for all aspects of meal preparation, timing and estimating quantities needed for patients, associates, meals on wheels, and special functions.


Follows menus and therapeutic diets utilizing standardized recipes and safe food handling practices.


Responsible for checking temperatures and tasting foods to ensure safety and palatability.


Performs clerical duties related to processing and updating patient diets, maintaining

temperature charts, and meal census.


Responsible for tray assembly and checking the menu to ensure proper diets, preferences, and portions are served to each patient and transporting cart to west hall for tray distribution.


Responsible for monitoring and recording any calorie counted or diabetic diet food consumption.


Responsible for proper storage and utilization of supplies and left overs.


Responsible for a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain order and a sanitary condition in the kitchen.

Responsible for reporting equipment needs or repairs to your supervisor.


Responsible for following Scott County Hospital policy and safety procedures.


Responsible for any other duties, shifts or positions requested by the supervisor.


Education, Qualifications, Experience:

Prefer high school education or equivalent.


Personal Characteristics:

Well groomed, neat, good personal hygiene, courtesy, honesty, dependability, interest and pride in work are required.


Expectation of Service: This is a non-exempt 36 hour per week position. Regular and punctual attendance is required.


Physical Requirements: This position requires continual standing, the ability to read, write and understand English, must be able to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, control emotions and work effectively under stress. Please review the Physical, Sensory, and Mental Requirements document attached to this job description.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

General math skills are required.


Appropriate decision making skills and judgment are needed.


The ability to plan and organize work is necessary.


Flexibility, adapts to change and interruptions in work.


Hand dexterity is required.


The ability to work independently with general supervision.


The ability to work cooperatively with others.


Prefer familiarity with quantity cooking, food safety, food quality, seasonings, cooking procedures, food service equipment, timing and temperatures.


Equipment:

Stove/range/grill/oven, mixers, slicers, food processors, microwaves, broiler, steam table, knives and hand equipment.
