The General Dental Council (GDC) is recruiting for a Governance Manager to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £44,210 - £52,012 per annum.
This is a hybrid role based in London, with regular travel to our Birmingham office.

About the role of Governance Manager:
The purpose of the job is to provide high quality governance advice and secretariat support to the GDC's Executive Leadership Team and provide broader support as part of the Governance Team to the Council and its Committees. Operating within an established governance framework, you will ensure the GDC functions effectively, acts lawfully and makes timely, well informed decisions. The Governance Manager will work with the Governance Team and GDC colleagues across a comprehensive range of governance activities, and lead on servicing the Executive Leadership Team Board for which you are responsible.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Prepare agendas and collate papers, in particular for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
- Distribute papers in a timely manner, and in accordance with the house style.
- Manage the logistics of meetings, both in person and online, including attendance of the general public at open Council sessions.
- Prepare accurate meeting minutes, agreeing these with the Deputy Head of Governance (Secretariat), Chief Executive and Lead Director.
- Accurately note and follow up on actions from meetings, ensuring that relevant employees and other individuals are made aware of ELT decisions and that those required to action these decisions are informed in good time and that the progress of actions is monitored.
- Brief the Chief Executive and members prior to and at meetings with regard to the agenda and matters arising from the previous minutes and procedural issues.
- Contribute to meeting discussions as and when required, and advise members of the legal and governance implications of proposed policies.
- Take responsibility for at least one area of policy review and administration in the team.
About you:
As a Governance Manager, you will provide governance advice and secretariat services, including but not limited to:
- Preparing, briefing, and distributing agendas and background papers.
- Briefing the Chief Executive and others prior to and during meetings, with regard to the agenda and procedural issues.
- Managing meeting logistics.
- Preparing accurate minutes.
- Contributing to meeting discussions as and when required.
- Following up on actions from meetings, ensuring that decisions are communicated and that the progress of actions is monitored.
- Taking responsibility for at least one area of policy review and administration in the team, for example gifts and hospitality.
- Supporting governance improvement and project work such as board level recruitment, board effectiveness and development, and providing governance advice to the organisation.
