Who You Are



  • Substantial experience in motor vehicle technology for cars, light goods vehicles, municipal vehicles, and parks equipment.

  • Practical experience in general hydraulic, welding, and electrical repairs.

  • Proficient in diagnostic skills related to the repair and maintenance of various vehicles and equipment.

  • Flexible approach to work, capable of adapting to a changing environment including varying shift patterns.

  • Ability to work under/on vehicles at different heights, including accessing inspection pits via ladders.

  • Experience using computer systems for recording work and vehicle history.

  • Effective team player with strong collaboration skills.

  • Desirable to have VOSA MOT tester qualification for class 4 and 5A vehicles.

  • Possess LGV class C driving license.

  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety, with evidence of continuous professional development.

  • City and Guilds part 1, 2, and 3 in motor vehicle maintenance or equivalent qualifications.




What the Job Involves



  • Service, repair, and maintain vehicles, plant, and equipment in line with legislative and health and safety requirements.

  • Conduct vehicle testing according to VOSA regulations ensuring high-quality maintenance work.

  • Carry out risk assessments, implement safe systems of work, and conduct safety inspections on all vehicles and equipment.

  • Liaise with external suppliers to maintain best value for goods and services.

  • Manage stores area ensuring stock levels and service items are adequate.

  • Provide roadside assistance and arrange recovery for broken down vehicles/plants.

  • Perform general fleet electrical work, welding, and fabrication on vehicles or equipment.

  • Conduct statutory testing and issue certificates for light goods vehicles and cars for the public.

  • Inspect and test vehicles post-repair to ensure satisfactory and safe standards.

  • Undertake initial inspections of new, hired vehicles, and plant, completing necessary data sheets.

  • Advise on the condition and inspect all MOT and workshop equipment before use.

  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and adhere to the shift system as required.
