Job Description

The post holder acts as the delegated lead for the maintenance, periodically review and update of Transport Nuclear Safety Case (TNSC) to underpin the continued safe Nuclear Warhead Transportation, in accordance with DNO procedures and processes and regulatory requirements. The post shall also provide SME safety case management advice and support to NTOG, on the development and management of other safety cases owned by the team.

Role Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be working in Technical Assurance team within NTOG and will deliver security aspects of future and in-service security management arrangements under the direction of the Nuclear Security Manager. This will include:
  • Develop and implement compliant Transport Nuclear security policies and plans for the DNO Transport Operating capability and assure their effectiveness via internal assurance and audit.
  • Act as the Intelligent Customer for all contractual outputs to satisfy Transport Nuclear Security Requirements.
  • Review, assess and maintain the nuclear security requirements of current and next generation Defence Nuclear Material and Nuclear Warhead transportation capabilities
  • Development and maintain nuclear transport and container security cases and the generation of supplementary supporting documentation
  • Mange and run Security Working Groups to progress forward actions and ensure alignment with interfacing facility security arrangements
  • Delivery of project Secure By Design work stands, cyber risk assessments and accreditation of security systems
  • Oversee delivery of supplier solutions to ensure that security requirements are being met
  • Develop and maintain project classification grading guides and security aspect letters

This post can be based in Bristol or Reading with regular travel between sites.

Person specification

Qualifications (can be completed in post):
  • Nuclear Weapons Foundation Course (NWFC)
  • Nuclear Convoy Familiarisation Training.

Skills:
  • 1 years working within a Security Role within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise.
  • Experience generating security requirements.
  • Experience conducting Threat Assessments.
  • Experience controlling and managing classified / sensitive information.

Desirable Skills:
  • 3 years experience in security roles within a high hazard or security sensitive environment.
  • 3 years experience of working in the Defence Nuclear Programme with knowledge of regulations and procedures across all life cycle phases.
  • Experience in supporting the delivering MOD projects through CADMID cycle.
  • Experience generating security cases.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Dual Nationals

3.As per Paragraph. 1.43 of the Civil Service Nationality Rules :

a) Candidates with dual nationality are in principle eligible for employment in the Civil Service provided that they meet the requirements in relation to one oftheir nationalities [i.e. UK National]. They may not be eligible, however, for employment in certain reserved posts where additional nationality requirements are imposed.

Additional Restrictions for Reserved Posts

4.As per Paragraphs. 3.10-3.11 of the Civil Service Nationality Rules :

a) Departments and agencies are entitled to impose additional requirements in reserved posts if this is considered necessary. This could include, for example, requirements as to the residency of the applicant or the nationality of one or both parents of the applicant.

5,As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process.
