Domestic Supervisor
£13.82 per hour
Full Time, 35 hours/week
12 months Fixed-Term
Manchester City Centre/Fallowfield
Overall Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of this role is to support the Assistant Domestic Coordinator in providing domestic services within the university’s Halls of Residence. The role includes offering supportive and motivational supervision to the Domestic Services team, ensuring tasks are completed to the agreed standards. The role aims to maintain service quality while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Role Specifics
Support the Assistant Domestic Coordinator and the supervisory-management team in monitoring and maintaining domestic service standards.
Provide corrective supervision, training, and coaching to Domestic Assistants to ensure consistent service quality.
Assist in planning and delivering daily domestic services, ensuring timely and appropriate service to student residents and guests.
Help manage staffing requirements, including covering for absences such as annual leave or sickness.
Oversee day-to-day domestic operations, ensuring services align with agreed operating standards.
Assist with staff training, development, and induction in line with the Directorate’s values.
Contribute to performance management under the guidance of senior colleagues.
Ensure staff adhere to hygiene, appearance, and safety standards, including the safe use and maintenance of equipment.
Manage stock supplies, including laundry services, chemicals, and equipment.
Monitor staff timesheets and manage maintenance requests via IT systems.
Assist across operational boundaries as needed, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection and university policies.
Ensure Health & Safety compliance, particularly with COSHH, manual handling, and the use of protective equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Domestic Coordinator to enhance the student experience.
Candidate Requirements
At least 2 years’ supervisory experience in the Facilities Management or Hospitality Industry.
Experience in a domestic services environment, preferably in a customer-facing role.
Solid understanding of Health and Safety practices, including COSHH, manual handling, and risk assessments.
Experience working in a process-driven team environment, with the ability to supervise and support colleagues.
Strong communication skills, able to interact with a diverse range of individuals.
Flexibility and responsiveness to customer needs, with a commitment to confidentiality.
Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Commitment to excellent customer service and enhancing the student experience.
