The Opportunity We are seeking a suitably qualified Senior Civil Design Engineer for a wide range of challenging infrastructure projects in our team in Italy. Our infrastructure team provides a range of design services on projects in both the public and private sectors. We work very closely with other Arup teams as part of Arup-wide multi-disciplinary teams across the World. We deliver projects primarily in the Science, Industry and Technology, Property, Healthcare, Social Infrastructure and Sport sectors. The team works principally in a BIM focused environment, constructing civil engineering designs in Civil 3D and Revit for coordination and connection with each discipline team in a collaborative common data environment (CDE). We deploy green infrastructure (GI) and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) designs to the maximum extent possible on our projects. At Arup, we combine the various core civil engineering aspects of a project and combine these into a single business offering for our clients, which is delivered by our dedicated Civil Engineering Team. As a Lead Civil Design Engineer at Arup, you will: Lead the design and delivery of the site infrastructures of technically demanding projects in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Act as project lead in managing the service and in having a direct interface with the clients’ teams. Liaise with clients from feasibility to completion to assist in setting and delivering the design ambitions. Assist in the definition of site surveys and testing necessary to acquire site specific data for the design. Develop the site infrastructure design through the design stages and the permitting and procurement process. Manage the supervision of the civil construction works as part of the clerk of works team. Assist in developing our Civil Engineering business by attending client meetings, producing bid documentation and general business development activities, but also by taking personal responsibility for the management and development of your colleagues. Actively share knowledge across the team to strive to deliver the highest quality of service to our clients. Is this role right for you? We're looking for someone who is passionate about infrastructure projects and the impact that design has on our environment. You’ll also need: Degree in Civil Engineering and 7 - 10 years of experience within a consultancy environment. Chartered professional status or in the process of gaining the qualification. Strong civil engineering technical design skills in the areas of surface water, foul water, energy, roads and carparks, earthworks, electrical and fibre utilities. Responsible for producing drawings, specifications and reports to time and budget. Awareness of the Italian regulatory and planning framework, together with experience of managing civil engineering projects through the planning process. Ability to technically lead and manage the design process from conceptual layout to detailed design and construction. Experience of managing internal and external design interfaces e.g., architectural, structural, geotechnical, landscape, mechanical and electrical. Passionate about driving digital delivery on projects and keeping appraised of latest industry developments around digital and BIM. Experience of leading and directing teams in a digital/BIM environment, co-ordinating civil services with those of other disciplines. Experience with Civil 3D/Revit and other BIM software. Knowledge of Navisworks and clash detection process. Knowledge of Hydraulic Modelling software. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and organisational skills. Why Arup?
