JOB DESCRIPTION: HOUSING PROGRAM MANAGER

Apna Ghar provides holistic services and conducts advocacy across immigrant communities to end gender violence. Apna Ghar empowers survivors to be self-sufficient through comprehensive, culturally competent programs and services including housing, advocacy, counseling and case management. In addition, we conduct outreach, institutional and policy advocacy to create better conditions for the survivors we serve.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Housing Program Manager, Housing plays a pivotal role within the organization and is responsible for the overall management and effectiveness of the Housing program under the guidance of the Executive Director. Particular focus is on overseeing all aspects of direct client services as well as any related projects while also contributing to the overall growth trajectory of Apna Ghar. As the program lead, they will be responsible for effective delivery of high quality, consistent, safe and impactful housing services. As a senior leadership position, the Housing Program Manager will work in close collaboration with the other senior staff and other program leads and staff to achieve goals. Competence and results for this position will be measured against quantity, quality and effectiveness of responsibilities delivered. This position reports to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Housing Program Manager

  • Coordinate and manage Apna Ghar Housing Program comprising of Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing and all associated services
  • Manage program services provided at Apna Ghar’s Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing apartments
  • Oversee crisis response currently done via text, email, phone, WhatsApp
  • Coordinate and manage the economic empowerment workshop curriculum development and implementation. This involves effectively collaborating with staff, volunteers and external consultants to ensure that a quality workshop is provided to both our residential and non-residential clients.
  • Coordinate and manage other skills-based workshops such as Life Skills, Cooking, Sewing, etc. provided by shelter staff to the clients.
  • Collaborate with other program areas and facilitate housing and employment related workshops.
  • Oversee the process of crisis response by the housing team to ensure high quality results
  • Oversee file-keeping, data entry, analysis, and reporting along with other administrative tasks that ensure the high quality of the Housing program
  • Ensure upkeep and management of all facilities in collaboration with Facilities Coordinator and Operations Coordinator to ensure safe, healing and high-quality program participant experience
  • Effectively use data and case management tools that are currently available and those that will be implemented
  • Represent Apna Ghar on task forces, working groups, coalitions, etc. focused on housing and employment
  • Actively engage in outreach and networking efforts to expand Apna Ghar’s Housing program and continually grow our resources available for clients

Quality Assurance

  • Contribute to the organization’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) through effective implementation of systems and associated processes
  • Implement program goals monitoring based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Monitor program and all services as well as any project/s weekly and ensure quality and regular success 
  • Prepare weekly and monthly internal reports, and contribute to any other reporting process as needed
  • Ensure all protocols and performance standards are actively integrated into direct service implementation, and services are standardized and consistent at all times
  • Train team members on important aspects of quality control, standardization, safety and consistency

Team Management and Supervision

  • Support and manage team members and any program consultants engaged in Housing services
  • Supervise team members on an ongoing basis for effective delivery of the appropriate quantity of services and ensure high-quality of these services and overall program area
  • Oversee team members’ adherence to administrative responsibilities such as reporting on time, attendance, timesheet submissions, kitchen duties, etc.
  • Support, manage and implement processes that facilitate effective communications across team members
  • Support team members in the accomplishment of their KPIs and professional development goals, and provide relevant feedback to the Programs Manager
  • Ensure effective cross team communications and collaborations

Program Development

  • Contribute to strategic thinking around program expansion and growth, and overall organization development processes
  • Contribute to program and grant reporting and proposal development by giving program details and other technical information as and when requested
  • Along with the development of the program area, focus on the evolution and growth of their own role as the program lead

Other responsibilities as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in social sciences, social work, public policy, or related fields; Master’s degree or an equivalent mix of experience and education is preferred
  • At least 5 years of overall work experience in direct services
  • 40-Hour Domestic Violence certification and foundational understanding of gender violence, gender issues, and cultural competency
  • Experience coordinating direct service projects
  • Experience in supervising staff with varying levels of capacities
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent collaboration, teamwork and teambuilding skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; excellent oral communication skills and ability to participate in public events and group settings; excellent conflict management and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations in culturally competent settings; and fluency in second language
