Gardener/ Groundsman

The Priory is a retirement village for the over 65s based in Abbotskerswell, Devon.

22.5 hours, 3 days a week- 8 hour days, 30 minute break

As a Gardener/Maintenance Assistance and Mini Bus Driver at Retirement Villages Group, you will play a vital role in ensuring the comfort and safety of our residents while maintaining the company's commitment to fostering a sense of community and wellbeing. Your primary responsibility will be the maintenance of the grounds and to transport residents to various destinations and recreational activities. Additionally, you will also be responsible for performing general maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep and functionality of our community.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport residents to and from various destinations using the company minibus
• Assist residents with getting on and off the minibus, ensuring their comfort and safety at all times
• Assisting in the planting and maintenance of flowers, plants, and trees.
• Maintaining lawns, hedges, and other green areas.
• Operating and maintaining gardening equipment and tools.
• Collaborating with the team to ensure the gardens meet the expectations and preferences of our residents.
• Perform routine safety checks on the minibus, reporting any issues to management
• Assist with general maintenance tasks such as repairing fixtures, changing lightbulbs, and conducting minor repairs
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the community's grounds and common areas

Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Previous experience as a driver, preferably within a healthcare or senior living environment
• Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with residents and staff
• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations
• Basic knowledge of maintenance tasks such as changing lightbulbs and conducting minor repairs
• Physical ability to lift and carry heavy objects and perform manual labour as needed
