Job Description
Journeyman will install, troubleshoot, and inspect fire alarm, security, and electronic systems in a field environment. Journeyman will apply safety procedures, construction skills, blue-print reading skills, rough-in and conduit bending skills, wiring techniques, electronic system installation practices, code requirements, etc. Responsibilities include evaluating new and existing systems at the customers location for function based on manufacturer spec, design documentation, relevant code, and customer input. Journeyman will work in the field on construction sites with a crew to complete the designated scope of work in a timely manner. Systems may include but are not limited to commercial fire alarm, enterprise level video surveillance, intercom, and access control.
This tech will need to cover all the clients in NM. It is rare but they do have some work that will require techs to stay out of town for a couple days. Client will schedule and pay for Hotels plus the techs will get a $35/day per diem to cover meals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Install, test, and certify all types of fire alarm/low-voltage systems
• Properly terminate head-end equipment
• Inspect and certify system function and operation
• Install cabling for a variety of building systems
• Install electronic systems components and head-end equipment for multiple types of low-voltage systems.
• Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
• 3+ years’ experience installing and servicing fire alarm and electronic systems in a commercial environment
• Must own required tools
• Must be familiar with NEC, NFPA, IBC, EIA, TIA and other applicable standards
• Ability to pass a drug screening and background check
• Must have reliable transportation and valid driver license
• A familiarity with electronic systems and networking a plus
• NM State Journeyman License required
• NICET Certification is a plus but not required
• BICSI Certification is a plus but not required
• Must be a detail-oriented individual that can think creatively while maintaining quality workmanship
• Must be able to learn and understand basic circuits and grasp abstract concepts with concrete function
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires exposure to construction site environments having temperature extremes, dust, fumes, smoke, hazardous substances and loud noise levels. Up to 70% of the job may include heavy physical work, heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of material that may weigh from 50 to 100 pounds. The position requires the incumbent to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds or aerial lifts, stand or walk for long periods, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, crawl and work in awkward positions or confined spaces for several hours at a time.
The position requires the unrestricted use of hands, arms, shoulders and the upper and lower back as well as visual acuity and depth perception. Pulmonary capacity must be sufficient to permit use of an air purifying respirator, if required.
