Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a licensed Cosmetologist for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois to manage a state operated beauty salon by advising and directing staff in the beauty care needs for patients. Conducts hands-on beauty care services. Cuts, shampoos, conditions and chemically treats hair. Performs scalp and hair treatments or any other beauty care services. Orders and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. Maintains salon work areas, tools and equipment in a sanitary and serviceable condition. Schedules appointments and maintains logs and reports.

Essential Functions

  • Provides beauty care services as an Illinois licensed Cosmetologist for patients at the Elgin Mental Health Center.
  • Ensures the beauty shop has adequate equipment under sanitary conditions applicable to Public Health Codes.
  • Schedules appointments for patients.
  • Reports in writing any unusual incidents.
  • Attends and participates in workshops and training on the care and treatment of individuals specialized hair styles.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires possession of a current Illinois license as a cosmetologist issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires the ability to perform duties for patients who may have various physical or mental disabilities.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment including personal computers.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
