About the Hospital
Griffith Base Hospital is a 119 bed facility with 100 hospital care beds and 10 maternity beds. Each year we support approximately 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 operations and 600 births. We provide a 24 hour Emergency Department (ED) with 15 ED spaces supported by an Intensive Care Unit and is also equipped with telehealth cameras to connect the team in Griffith with specialists across the NSW Critical Care Advisory Service. The hospital provides a range of acute specialist services (resident and visiting) including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatric Medicine, Oncology, Haematology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal Dialysis and Rheumatology.
Griffith Base Hospital Redevelopment
The $250 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment will deliver Griffith and the surrounding communities with state-of-the art health facilities and enhanced health services closer to home.
All major health services at the Griffith Base Hospital will be housed under one roof, in the purpose-built three storey Clinical Services Building designed to support contemporary models of care.
Other works as part of the redevelopment include the Non Clinical Services Building, demolition of old hospital buildings, landscaping and car parking.
The Redevelopment is scheduled for completion in 2025.

About Medical Careers at Griffith - The Rural Training Pathway
At Griffith Base Hospital we have a range of interesting and rewarding medical career pathways including:
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Pathway
- Facilitated rotations including mandatory hospital rotations required for general registration, RACGP and ACRRM GP training.
- Locally provided and facilitated education and development to support continued clinical learning.
Career Medical Officer (CMO) Pathway
- Available to doctors awaiting a training position with a GP College training pathway or doctors intending to work as CMOs.
- First year comprises Emergency Medicine, with essential training requirements including the Emergency Medicine Certificate (ACEM), DETECT, ALS1 and Emergency Management of Severe Trauma.
GP Pathway
- Provides registrars with the required hospital and advanced procedural training experience to work towards fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
- Doctors can apply to undertake GP training under AGPT, ACRRM Independent Pathway, the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) or RACGP Practice Eligible Pathway.
Advanced Skills Pathway
- Available for ACRRM and RACGP Registrars undertaking a Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP) qualification.
- Comprises 12 months advanced specialised training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesia, Paediatrics, Adult Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Surgery (24 months for ACRRM).
What you'll be doing
Provide first-line medical care to patients presenting to the Hospital, including assessment, investigation, treatment and referral for ongoing non-inpatient care or, on consultation with consultant specialists, admission/transfer for inpatient care and discharge of patients. In accepting this position you agree to support core NSW public sector values of cultural diversity, equity and ethical practice, and a healthy, safe and fair workplace” and by addressing these core values in training courses and the induction process.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- High level communication skills, both written and verbal
- Skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving
- Commitment to own continuing professional development and self-education
- Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety
- At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
