Testimonials from current Enrolled Nurses working at John Hunter Hospital:

“When I commenced at JHH years ago as an EN, the EN coordinator at the time would make it a priority to check in on the ENs across the hospital. This made me feel extremely supported and facilitated my professional development, particularly as I wasn’t even a part of the transition program. I feel like he went out of his way to come and support the EN’s across JHH. Team culture on the ward is fantastic, especially on the ward where I work now. The NUM is extremely supportive, flexible, and approachable. She always does her best to facilitate work/life balance and makes me feel supported and encouraged to do my best work. The learning opportunities I’ve had at JHH, compared to Aged care are incredible. The variety of different patients we get the opportunity to care for every day is amazing. If I ever feel out of depth, my colleagues or NUM will call the education team to come and support me. For example: if I have a rapid response or a deteriorating patient, they will help support me through this, to ensure that I stay on track with my workload. Overall, my experience and the learning opportunities at the JHH are fantastic.” – Kirsti Ford (EN JHH Ward F1)

“When I commenced my career at John Hunter, I was an EN transitioning from an aged care facility. John Hunter opened my eyes up to nursing as it introduced me to the acute, vulnerable, time-critical environment which is the nature of this large hospital. I remember the feelings of excitement and curiosity to learn about the different specialties and meet the highly-skilled healthcare professionals, who I even got the chance to work alongside. Being an EN, I was always supported by a Registered Nurse and I remember thinking how much time the nurses gave me to share their knowledge to ensure that I learnt the specialities that I was working within. I fell in love with the feeling of knowing that I could make a positive impact in these vulnerable patients’ lives, assist with their care, and include them in their care to make them feel safe. The thing that stands out to me now as an acting Nurse Unit Manager, is the fact that there is so much incredible opportunity for career development and personal growth when you work in the John Hunter Hospital. The friends I have made here and the people you meet, make it more than just a workplace.” Michelle Curry (NUM Staffing Services, Former EEN JHH)
