Who You Are
- Substantial experience in motor vehicle technology, servicing cars, light goods vehicles, municipal vehicles, and parks equipment.
- Practical experience with hydraulic systems, welding, and electrical repairs.
- Diagnostic skills for vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments and shift patterns to meet customer needs.
- Comfortable working on vehicles at varying heights and in confined spaces, including accessing inspection pits via ladders.
- Proficient in using computer systems to track work completed and check vehicle history.
- Team player with experience collaborating effectively with colleagues.
- Possession of a City and Guilds part 1, 2, and 3 in motor vehicle maintenance (or equivalent) and LGV class C driving license.
- Desirably, qualified as a VOSA MOT tester for class 4 and 5 vehicles.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
What the Job Involves
- Servicing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles, plant, and equipment as per legislative and health and safety requirements.
- Conducting vehicle tests in compliance with VOSA regulations.
- Ensuring maintenance work is completed effectively, efficiently, and to high-quality standards.
- Performing risk assessments and safety inspections on all vehicles and plant equipment.
- Liaising with external suppliers to secure goods and services that maintain value.
- Managing stores to keep stock levels adequate for maintenance work.
- Providing roadside assistance for breakdowns and arranging for recovery when needed.
- Conducting fleet electrical work, welding, fabrication, and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
- Inspecting and testing vehicles post-contractor work to ensure satisfactory completion.
- Performing statutory testing and issuing certificates for light goods vehicles and public cars.
- Inspecting new, hired vehicles and plant equipment, filling data sheets, and performing MOT testing.
- Checking workshop equipment and tools prior to use and advising on equipment condition.
- Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of the workshop area, performing steam cleaning as needed.
- Working according to the shift system, following prior notice and consultation.
