Join our crew! We're on the lookout for enthusiastic, BML (Tier 1, Level 2) certified skippers who are ready for an exciting new adventure with City Cruises. Flexibility (full or part time hours) and a love for the open water are a must!
City Cruises UK is part of the City Experiences division of the Hornblower Group, a global leader in world-class experiences and transportation services. We operate public dining and sightseeing cruises as well as private charters for corporate events, birthday parties, weddings, or other special occasions across London, Poole, and
York.
We are one of the city’s longest established visitor attractions and have been delivering first-class experiences to passengers and guests for over 30 years. Cruises include; daytime and evening sightseeing cruises, dining cruises, floodlit evening cruises, party nights afloat cruises, and private charters. Cruise durations are between 45 minutes and 4 hours.
The Company operates from several landings including; Kings Staith, Lendal Bridge, and Marygate in the city centre, along with Acaster Malbis, and Naburn Lock to the south of York. The Boatmaster is to provide to our guests the best experience by safely navigating your vessel and making sure their time onboard is enjoyable.
Key responsibilities & Duties
- To ensure your vessel meets Company and legal safety standards so our passengers remain safe and enjoy their experience on board
- To follow relevant regulations, and comply with the requirements of the Company’s Safety
- Management System - To ensure that your crew follow and comply with these regulations and requirements
- To navigate your vessel safely in accordance with the Collision Regulations and local by-laws
- To ensure that all required documentation is completed and looked after at all time
- To be responsible for, and facilitate onboard safety training for crew members
- To manage your vessel’s operations including sailing to a schedule, and crew breaks
- To ensure safe mooring of your vessel at all times, and be responsible for the safe embarkation and disembarkation of passengers and crew members
- To provide a safety announcement after leaving each landing
- To carry out daily and periodic checks of all safety equipment and machinery
- To report any deficiencies or issues using the Company’s maintenance request procedure
- To check the vessel’s fuel level and if necessary, fuel the vessel before entering it into service
- To be responsible for crew training and emergency drills
- To ensure the vessel has an adequate supply of fresh water on board prior to commencing service
- To ensure the vessel is clean, tidy and well presented at all times
- To provide passengers with an entertaining and informative commentary during the cruise
- To give our passengers the best customer experience while on board
- To ensure that all crew on your vessel are well presented and groomed, and in Company uniform at all times
- To promote to onboard sales and other Company products as directed
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience operating as Boatmaster on large passenger vessels
- Knowledge of vessel maintenance and vessel engineering
- Appropriate Boatmaster Licence for area of operation
- Current ML5 medical certificate or equivalent
Desirable
- Full understanding of Health & Safety aboard and ashore and implementation of a Safety Management System
- Experience working within the hospitality industry
