Job Description

Department mission To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of all public facilities, equipment, and buildings, in order to support sustainable development and improve citizens’ quality of life. Responsibilities and goals associated with the position The job involves carrying out carpentry, paint, masonry, locksmithery and other work required for the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of structures, buildings, equipment and furniture. The work also involves maintaining and repairing plumbing systems and driving a service truck and a mobile workshop truck. Examples of tasks Carries out various tasks related to the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of movable and immovable property such as structures, equipment, buildings, furniture, etc. Builds or repairs furniture. Using a variety of materials, designs and builds pieces of equipment and work accessories for specific needs and uses; suggests changes to make them more functional or to improve the finished product; corrects sketches as needed. Installs, adjusts, repairs and maintains all kinds of locks, door closers and security bars; changes the function of locks and modifies mortices and cylinders; takes locks apart and repairs, retrieves and combines parts so that they can be used again. Cleans, washes and repaints the inside and outside walls of buildings. Cleans, strips, stains and varnishes furniture. Repairs or replaces defective plumbing and accessories and installs new material or accessories used to modernize plumbing systems. Unblocks sinks, showers, urinals, toilets and vent pipes. Makes sure that plumbing, faucets, valves and other accessories used to water parks, playgrounds and skating rinks are kept in good working order. Requirements Diploma of vocational studies in carpentry or any other equivalent education in carpentry and a competency certificate of apprentice carpenter-joiner awarded by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ). Or High school degree or a diploma of vocational studies and a competency certificate of carpenter-joiner journeyman awarded by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ). Valid driver’s license pertinent to the position. 4 years of pertinent experience Familiarity with: spoken French, spoken English, and written French; techniques, practices and tools used in the practice of the trade; the mobile workshop truck (its capacity and limits, and how to drive it). Skills: work according to the rules of the trade; use tools and equipment needed on the job; perform cutting operations without unnecessary loss; read blueprints; draw sketches; drive the motorized vehicle in use.
