Role: Senior Software Engineer | OneSearch team

Our OneSearch platform sits at the heart of everything we do, underpinning our flagship brands, serving multiple distribution partners and providing faceted navigation and up-to-date price and availability data for an international portfolio of 115,000 properties (across cottages, lodges, parks).

What will your role be?

Joining our engineering teams, you’ll join a culture which revolves around getting things done. We deliver with small, fully autonomous teams that have real ownership of their products using a cutting edge stack in a best-idea-wins meritocracy. We operate what we build – which means reliability is key and devops is part of every engineer’s job description.

Day-to-day you will:

• Work as part of a full stack product team responsible for building innovative products to ensure we continue to deliver optimal experiences for our guests and owners.
• Help to shape the overall architecture and tech strategy for the OneSearch platform using the right technology for the task, rather than allowing the technology to dictate the solution.
• Contribute to driving best engineering practices such as CI/CD, TDD, cloud architectures and mob programming
• Mentor and grow software engineers (grads, juniors and mid-weight engineers)
• Be an active member of the engineering and wider tech community within Awaze

What will you offer?

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer, who loves nothing more than solving problems in a collaborative, agile development environment.

You’ll enjoy mob programming (or you'll at least be experienced working in pairs), you thrive within an autonomous product engineering culture and enjoy working with international teams.

A Back End Engineer with experience and passion for Cloud, you will offer experience/knowledge in a mixture of the following (we are not expecting you to know everything):

• Designing and developing scalable, maintainable, performant and resilient application and micro-services
• Whilst our chosen languages is Java & Kotlin currently nothing is stopping you from reaching for something else if it does it better. We use the best tool for the job!
• AWS: developing and deploying cloud native solutions using Terraform or similar IaC tools
• Implementing DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes etc) and passion for improving the way applications are built
• Experience with modern quality practices, such as pairing, TDD, BDD

Location: Manchester - 2 days in the office per week

Interview process:

We like to keep our interview process as efficient and stress-free as possible, so here’s what to expect:

Part 1) You’ll have a cultural interview with two of our Engineering Managers, where we will be looking for you to evidence your suitability for the role, but of course this isn’t one sided – you’ll get plenty of chance to ask questions, too. (1hr)

Part 2) You’ll complete a pair programming exercise with two of our senior engineers. Don’t worry though, we’re not trying to catch you out, instead we’re looking to see how solve problems and how you interact/work in a pair. (1hr)

And, we commit to provide you with a decision within 24 hours of your interview.
