About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Hospitality Interior Designer to work in-house, for an established Brand as we continue to rapidly expand.

This role will support the Director of Interior Design working globally across all three brands (YOTEL, YOTELAIR & YOTELPAD). The role will enable a motivated individual to support & grow with the Brand by supporting the Interior Design direction across all projects worldwide. Day to day the role will be working as a Brand Guardian within the Technical Services team to deliver the Brand identity that is specific to YOTEL.

To qualify for this role, it is imperative the candidate has 8 years post graduate hospitality design experience and will have a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates their breadth of expertise across a range of successful hospitality projects with technical knowledge an advantage.

This unique opportunity is ideal for an experienced hospitality designer looking to transition in-house with a leading global hotel brand. While the role requires significant design expertise, it is not a design-led position, and we are not a design studio.

Key Responsibilities (to name a few)

  • Support the interior design input as required by the Director of Interiors.
  • Provide interior design assistance to the Technical Services team in the review of feasibility opportunities or Property Improvement Plans & Renovations as required under the guidance of the Director of Interiors.
  • Lead minor Capex design & specification works in line with Brand Standards.
  • Develop schematic designs, sourcing materials & fabrics, finding suppliers, drafting drawings, scheduling & attending meetings.
  • Participate in design review workshops & meetings.
  • Create project specific design narratives, presentations & guidance for use internally & to external parties, consultants & owners.
  • Provide design/brand guidance to external consultants as required on any project.
  • Support on preparing reports & presentations for Director of Interiors to Owner/Developers, YOTEL Executive team & VP Technical Services when required.
  • Support on Design Managers project queries.
  • Prepare &/or review design briefs & guidance.
  • Review designs at all project stages for conformity to specific Brand standards, Design & Construction guidelines & Brand Management direction.
  • Illustrate exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate YOTELs visions to ownership, design teams & colleagues through presentations, drawings & specifications.
  • Prepare mood boards as/when required to support new Business Development opportunities & pitches to external groups.
  • Have a clear understanding of interior budgets & programs.
  • Participate in value engineering for each project & ensure that Brand standards & quality are not compromised.
  • A clear understanding & ability to work to the RIBA interior work stages.
  • Work closely with contractors, suppliers & architects & coordinate a multitude of tasks simultaneously.
  • Support projects to be delivered on time, on budget, & to the highest standards of quality.
  • Support on feasibility studies from interior perspective.
  • Brief & be a first point of check-in for junior team members providing development guidance.
  • Stay knowledgeable about the Hotel Design industry & works to introduce new products and materials to the company as well as guiding design groups to their availability & potential project application.
  • Contribute to region specific global brand requirements for all YOTEL Brands.
  • Support on the review of YOTEL Brand Standards biannually & update relevant manuals, support documents & specifications.
  • Site visits.
  • Work collaboratively with Director of Interior Design on new hotel openings including supporting the snagging & approvals process.
  • Support interiors post-opening Design reviews.
  • Attend industry events, conferences & trade shows & prepare relevant award submissions aiding Business Development.

What we are looking for

  • A recognised Interior Design or equivalent design degree.
  • Minimum 8 Years post graduate experience within hospitality design.
  • Experience working with established international hotel brands is preferable.
  • Experience working within a Brand environment rolling out & delivering Brand Standards is also advantageous.
  • A detailed design portfolio must be submitted displaying experience of all aspects of hotel Interior Design RIBA Workstages.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility, planning codes & technical requirements as it relates to hospitality architecture & design.
  • A technical ability would be an advantage.
  • Have a clear understanding of interior budgets & programs.
  • Experience in hospitality specifications & VE is essential.
  • A strong understanding and established relationships with leading FF&E suppliers and manufacturers are imperative particularly in hospitality loose furniture & specialist joiners who are suitable for global use.
  • Candidate must be fluent in both spoken & written English. Additional languages are also beneficial for the role.
  • The successful candidate must be a proactive individual, able to think critically & work both independently and within a wider team as required.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of the design & construction process.
  • Able to produce freehand sketches alongside strong computer design skills (BIM software i.e., Revit or ArchiCAD are preferable).
  • Adobe Suite (Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design).
  • Microsoft Office Suite; Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Sketch-Up desirable.
  • Aptitude to effectively handle multiple projects. This role involves a broad range of tasks which run concurrently.
  • Commercially minded & a motivation to learn.
  • Availability & willingness to travel as required, occasionally at short notice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that build trust & instill confidence to motivate & inspire others.
  • Absolute discretion & confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Project specific, the availability to travel to our sites globally is required.
