Job Description
To manage the day-to-day operations of a supported living service for young people aged 16-18, ensuring that high-quality, person-centered care is provided. The Manager will be responsible for leading and developing the staff team, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting the independence, safety, and well-being of the young people in the service.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the supported living service, ensuring it meets the needs of young people and adheres to organizational policies.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized support plans for each young person, ensuring their goals and aspirations are central to the care provided.
- Ensure the service operates within budget and financial targets, managing resources effectively.
Leadership and Staff Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of support workers, ensuring they are motivated, well-trained, and working effectively.
- Conduct regular supervisions, appraisals, and performance management for staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Oversee staff recruitment, induction, and training, ensuring that the team has the necessary skills and qualifications to deliver high-quality care.
Safeguarding and Compliance:
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the service, ensuring all safeguarding concerns are reported and managed in line with policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards, including those set by Ofsted and the local authority.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including care plans, risk assessments, and incident reports.
Support and Development of Young People:
- Promote the independence, rights, and choices of the young people, supporting them in developing life skills and preparing for adulthood.
- Facilitate access to education, training, employment, and recreational activities, helping young people to achieve their full potential.
- Work in partnership with families, social workers, and other professionals to provide holistic support tailored to each young person's needs.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure the living environment is safe, secure, and well-maintained, carrying out regular health and safety checks.
- Manage risks within the service, including the development of risk management plans for individual young people.
- Ensure all health and safety policies are adhered to, including fire safety, infection control, and medication management.
Quality Assurance:
- Implement quality assurance systems to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the service, identifying areas for improvement.
- Prepare for and participate in inspections, audits, and reviews, ensuring the service meets or exceeds regulatory standards.
- Respond to complaints, concerns, and incidents in a timely and effective manner, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external agencies, including local authorities, schools, healthcare providers, and other relevant organizations.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and ensure effective communication within the service.
- Represent the organization in meetings and forums as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with young people in a residential or supported living setting.
- Proven experience in a management or supervisory role within social care.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and care standards.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act, Care Standards Act, and Ofsted regulations.
Desirable:
- Experience in managing a supported living service for young people.
- Experience in budget management and financial planning.
- Training in therapeutic or trauma-informed care approaches.
