Salary: £23,220 to £27,181 FTE

Shipley College is looking to enhance its exceptionally effective student services team that work together to deliver life-changing learning by recruiting a Wellbeing Coach.


Working as a key part of the Student Services Team, you will proactively support student wellbeing and be responsive to referrals; delivering individual and small group coaching, developing personalised action plans, signposting students to wider internal and external support services and taking a lead role on promoting a cross-college culture of wellbeing.

We are looking for someone who:



  • Holds a Level 2 (equivalent) Qualification in Maths and English

  • Is passionate about seeing young people do well

  • Is able to coach people to develop the skills as strategies they need to improve and manage their own wellbeing

  • Is resilient, and able to deal with complex and emotionally challenging work.

Job Description

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB


Based within Student Services, your ability to effectively triage will enable students to access the right support at pace, meaning that students are connected to the right person or service without delay.


You will be the focal point for our student facing services and for many, their first point of contact with the student services team.


You will be supported to understand the levels of crisis, concerns or questions that a student may present with and supported to make sound judgements as to the best course of action, including which cases to deal with yourself, and which to refer to a more specialist colleague. This will enable the team to function effectively - and to deliver an outstanding service to students.


Your empathy and compassion for those in crisis, alongside your ability to remain calm and focussed under pressure will allow you to deliver the services and interventions our students need to be successful in life, work and their studies.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Student Support:



  • To provide individual counselling and support to students experiencing emotional, psychological, or social difficulties.

  • To design wellbeing support plans.

  • To facilitate workshops and group sessions on mental health awareness, stress management, and resilience.

  • To refer students to appropriate internal or external services when necessary.


Wellbeing Initiatives:



  • To develop and implement wellbeing initiatives and programs, such as mindfulness workshops, stress reduction techniques, and peer support groups.

  • To collaborate with staff and students to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

  • To promote a culture of wellbeing within the college community.


Crisis Management:



  • To respond to and manage mental health crises effectively.

  • To provide immediate support to students in distress.

  • To liaise with relevant agencies when necessary.


Professional Development:



  • To maintain up-to-date knowledge of mental health issues, best practices, and relevant legislation.

  • To participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and expertise.


GENERAL



  • To demonstrate a positive commitment to the implementation of the College’s Equality Diversity and Inclusion Policy and to the maintenance of a culture of continuous quality improvement, assurance and innovation.

  • To be aware of the responsibilities under the provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) in terms of the post holder’s own safety and the effects of their actions on colleagues, students and visitors.

  • To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young learners and vulnerable adults the post-holder is responsible for or comes into contact with.

  • To undertake mandatory training and staff development/CPD training as required by the nature of this post and the range of duties described within this job description.

  • To use IT as designated appropriate to the nature of the role.

  • To act in accordance with the College’s expectations as set out in the Staff Code of Conduct and contract of employment.

  • To undertake such other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may reasonably be required.


PERSON SPECIFICATION


Essential criteria

  • Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent or willingness to work towards

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Experience of leading activities with under 19s

  • Experience of using computerised systems effectively to manage workload, maintain records and ensure an efficient service (we use systems such as Unit e, Advantage and Navigate)

  • Experience of delivering engaging mentoring, training, coaching or group learning

  • Understanding of the challenges and opportunities that young people experience in modern Britain

  • Ability to connect with (and support/motivate) young people - ideally in a counselling or crisis management capacity

  • Ability to contribute as part of a team and to take the lead on activities using their own initiative

  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and provide a high level of customer service
