The Marine Crew is a professional and hard-working team of four that maintains marine and freshwater infrastructure at all Washington State Parks. The Marine Crew's mission is to serve the public by maintaining and enhancing public access features such as piers, docks, boat launches, and buoys.
Based at beautiful Deception Pass State Park, the crew travels by boat and vehicle extensively throughout the state. Being outside and on the water, accomplishing complex and challenging projects, traveling to amazing saltwater and freshwater parks, and working closely with a skilled crew all make the Marine Crew the best place to work at Washington State Parks. Under the direct supervision of the Statewide Marine Facilities Manager, the Marine Crew C&M Supervisor oversees the planning, direction, and coordination of the Marine Crew's success in construction, renovation, remodel, repair, inspection, and maintenance of Marine State Park buildings, facilities, vessels, equipment, and vehicles.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Serving as the lead and coordinator of maintenance for marine and freshwater facilities:
* Lead and direct maintenance, repair, and operational development of marine facilities and equipment.
* Coordinate with region maintenance managers and area managers on emergent and unforeseen maintenance needs of existing facilities.
* Oversee statewide field operations for the Marine Crew on constructions and maintenance projects including docks, floats, buoys, and piers.
* Supervise:
* Schedule work priorities and shift coverage, mentor, recommend disciplinary and corrective action, perform hiring interviews, and develop work plans and evaluations.
* Recruit and hire trades and maintenance staff.
* Project Coordination:
* Responsible for the coordination and completion of preventative, deferred, routine, equipment, and emergency maintenance.
* Performs repair and maintenance work in trades including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, water and vessel systems, and other equipment.
* Develop and control marine operations budget for all assigned projects and repairs.
* Administration:
* Approve timesheets, purchasing card logs, requisitions, training requests, leave requests, and prepare reports.
* Maintain programs for budgets, cost estimates and track projects.
* Perform routine inspections of facilities, equipment and provide reports to area managers/region maintenance managers as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
C&M Project Supervisor
* Two (2) years of experience as a Construction & Maintenance Project Lead or four (4) years of experience as a Construction & Maintenance Project Specialist or at least eight (8) years of advanced level experience in two (2) or more trades to include: building maintenance, repair, remodeling, construction duties, and mechanical/machinery.
Two (2) years of technical or vocational training or education in a building/construction trade may substitute for up to two (2) years of required experience.
Marine Crew Supervisor
* Two (2) years of experience in the operation and navigation and/or piloting of marine vessels on waters governed by the U.S. Coast Guard.
One (1) year of training from a federally approved merchant marine school/naval academy may be substituted for one year operating experience, providing the curriculum included navigation, piloting, and seamanship.
AND
* At least two (2) years of supervisory experience including directing the work of employees and providing performance feedback.
* High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
* Valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver's license.
* Washington State Boater's Card or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
* First Aid/CPR Certification or ability to obtain within the first 12 months of employment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* US Coast Guard 100-ton master license near coastal waters or greater
* SCUBA certification and commercial diving experience.
* CDL Class A license.
* Experience working for Washington State Parks or a similar parks and recreation entity.
* Advanced knowledge of repair, maintenance, and construction techniques including the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in marine infrastructure construction and maintenance.
* Ability to perform advanced level work in a variety of trades to include proficiency reading schematics and blueprints.
* Expert level skills and experience with the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
* Experience managing small to larger multifaceted projects to include coordination of work to be completed, use of contractors/vendors, purchase and supplies, planning, and completion of tasks by specific timelines.
* Experience organizing and directing employees in project goals and objectives while tracking timelines and effectively communicating with all stakeholders.
* Advanced knowledge and application of marine operations, environmental regulations, and all other rules and regulations governing safety, repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities and tasks.
UNIFORM INFORMATION:
All Construction & Maintenance Supervisors are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Construction & Maintenance staff member and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All Construction & Maintenance Supervisors will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, and a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and a $250 boot stipend every 2 years.
