Summary Visits with patients to collect menus, understand personal and cultural food preferences, provide education, and implement the nutrition recommendations of the Registered Dietitian. Spends time both on the floor visiting patients and doing office work. Coordinates all communication for the nutrition and food service department. Entry level position although great opportunity to gain experience and build connections prior to a dietetic internship. Key Responsibilities · Utilize nutrition-specific software to communicate patient needs and enter menu data. Manually enter diet orders, speech therapy orders, allergies, and preferences into nutrition-specific software proficiently and accurately. · Visit assigned patients to verbally collect menu selections and food preferences, discuss allergies, and provide real-time diet education to ensure patient selections comply with prescribed diet. · Distribute and retrieve selected patient paper menus per established timeframes. · Collect nutrition-relevant information from family members and/or members of the interdisciplinary team regarding food allergies, food preferences and nutrition status. · Guide patients, families and interdisciplinary team members regarding the food preparation, food selection and menu-planning based on individual patient needs. · Evaluate patient preference and capability related to daily meal selection. · Collect patient calorie count data and calculate macronutrient intake to progress patients toward treatment goals. · Observe patient food intake and report progress, dietary problems, or response to treatment to the dietitian. · Complete clerical duties including preparing tray tickets, production sheets and updating patient menus to meet the diet order. · Independently manage all phone calls received in the diet office. · Effectively and efficiently communicate time-sensitive, menu-specific patient and therapy needs to the kitchen supervisors, cooks, therapists and nurses. · Quality assurance monitoring completed per stated expectations. · Additional department, organization, or network activities completed per established objectives. · PCC Organizational Values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence upheld. Qualifications and Experience Education/Degree Preferred but not necessary – Bachelor’s degree Experience Preferred but not necessary – Previous food service and/or patient interaction experience Licensure Not necessary - Registered Diet Technician (DTR) Skills - Effective verbal, electronic and written communications skills using the English language. - Can work well with diverse populations and adapt to a variety of needs. - Computer proficiency required with ability to learn new software. - Ability to maintain variable work schedule to provide patient care as needed (evenings, holidays, weekends and travel). - Works independently; can be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team. - Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them. - High level of customer service and attention to detail. Demonstrates initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
