Job Description

The Health & Safety Advisor will provide landfill based technical and administrative support as part of the landfill team and report to the Senior Contracts Manager for all landfills across the UK. The Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for providing inspections, audits, site engagement, coaching, mentoring, monitoring, advising and maintaining all aspects of the health & safety processes and procedures that protect the landfill workforce and minimise the companys health & safety risks on all landfill sites throughout the UK.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with all landfill delivery teams to provide HSE documentation, advice, support and training on all aspects of health & safety compliance and issues affecting the landfill location
  • Coaching, mentoring & monitoring health & safety practices on all landfills and advising landfill site management on improving their health & safety standards
  • Completing landfill health & safety inspections/audits and discussing findings and recommendations with landfill management
  • Supporting landfills with incident management including incident investigations
  • Supporting landfills with specific health & safety enquires, guidance, solutions, risk assessment, method statement, safe systems of work etc
  • Design and implementation of company-wide initiatives to improve health & safety awareness
  • Developing innovative health & safety solutions, e.g., Together Safer, behavioural safety, plant & equipment technologies etc
  • Advising and assisting with audits and accreditations
  • Liaising with health & safety specialists, regulators and client representatives
  • Contributing to written bids for new contracts and awards

The role is for a permanent employment.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate
  • Technical/Certified member of IOSH (and working towards chartered status)
  • Preferable 2 years working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil engineering contractor
  • Highly developed professional communication skills, including writing and presentation of reports, investigations, preparing relevant documents, and participating in a range of meetings
  • Be able to confidently and effectively communicate with all levels of the workforce, contractors, clients and regulatory bodies
  • Be self-motivated, focused, reliable, well-organised, flexible, possess good team working ethic
  • Enthusiastic about health & safety issues and constantly use initiative
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong computer literacy, including good working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite
  • Travel & work at various sites across the UK (including overnight stays)
  • Full UK driving licence
