JOB SUMMARY:

The City of Homewood is actively recruiting Construction Supervisors who will oversee the planning, delegation, and assessment of tasks performed by both skilled and unskilled workers involved in construction, maintenance, and repair projects. These professionals will manage the installation of piping, as well as the construction of culverts and drainage systems, either directly or through their team. They will receive directives from a higher-level supervisor who sets goals, priorities, and deadlines, and provides guidance on unique situations lacking established precedents. Construction Supervisors will also interpret and execute work based on provided drawings and specifications. They are expected to plan and execute the necessary steps, addressing any issues or deviations by following given instructions, policies, and standard practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered for employment in this position, a candidate must possess the following:
  • Class B CDL.
  • Experience operating medium to heavy construction equipment such as a track excavator, front end loader, boom truck/dump truck, backhoe, bulldozer, roll grader, or asphalt paver.
  • Experience participating and leading maintenance and/or construction projects on sidewalks, roads, paving, pipes, etc.
  • Experience setting up traffic work zones using cones, flaggers, men working signs, and other safety equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred qualifications are experiences, education, and/or other job-related qualifications considered to be highly desirable by Merit System agencies. The preferred qualifications may be used by the hiring agency to identify applicants to invite to participate in subsequent selection processes.
  • Class A CDL.
JOB DUTIES:

Typical job duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:
  • Prepares equipment, materials and crew for work upon arrival at the work site by communicating work standards, inspecting tools and equipment and ensuring the availability of materials.
  • Oversees and participates in the demolition of condemned and unsafe structures by ensuring proper documentation and safety of crew.
  • Oversees and participates in biosolids collection, transport, and maintenance activities ensuring adherence to regulations and established protocol.
  • Oversees and participates in park construction and maintenance activities ensuring adherence to regulations and priorities.
  • Determines resources needed for work and prepares truck, equipment, materials, and tools for transport to site.
  • Oversees and participates in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of culverts, storm and sanitary sewers, manholes, sidewalks, etc.
  • Participates in street/road paving and maintenance activities such as asphalt application, debris removal and pavement maintenance to ensure assigned work follows proper standards or procedures.
  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
  • Performs wrap-up activities at the conclusion of each day to ensure proper progress and/or completion of work.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Homewood offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:
  • Salary range: $45,697 - $70,907 (starting salary is commensurate with education and experience)
  • Flexible work arrangements including remote/telework options for up to two days per week and alternative work schedules (e.g., four 10-hour days). Such flexible work arrangements are available to employees after completion of their probationary period and approval by the Department Director.
