Job Description

The business:


This online betting and entertainment business is thriving and have big plans for the future. Whilst this is a 9 month FTC initially, it is a great time to join the business and run with some very interesting legal matters. The business also operates in over 15 locations with casino and resorts in the US as well as significant online presence with a range of their well known free-play and online gaming brands. This role will be to join their digital arm of the business.

The legal team:


The Global Legal department advises the business across a wide range of legal issues including commercial contract review and negotiation, regulatory developments, marketing, dispute resolution and intellectual property. Legal seeks to pro-actively identify legal risks and safeguard the business in accordance with commercial priorities, market developments and the group's risk framework.


The Global Legal department comprises of approximately 20 heads and has Legal Teams supporting two geographical areas; North America and International (based in the UK). This role is part of the International Legal Team and supports both International geographical divisions (UK & Spain and Asia & Rest of World) and works closely with the Corporate, IP, Technology and Disputes teams.


The Role:


As Senior Legal Counsel you will likely be involved in a range of legal matters;

  • Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of complex commercial contracts, including; global software licensing agreements; global outsourcing agreements; contracts for global IT/tech solutions, SaaS agreements, contracts for the licensing of sports data etc.
  • Guiding and supporting other members of the team in relation to the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts.
  • Developing an understanding of, and advising on, regulatory issues affecting the International Business and liaising with gaming regulatory authorities as necessary.
  • Providing general advice and acting as legal project manager to various parts of the business across offices in UK, Malta, Gibraltar, Spain, Estonia, Philippines and Isle of Man.
  • Working across the business to ensure joined-up thinking with group functions/stakeholders.
  • Providing legal training to parts of the business where required and contributing to developing the team’s know-how and precedent bank.


The ideal candidate:


  • 6+ years PQE - if you have slightly less PQE (4/5PQE) but strong experience with the below, our client will be open to exploring other PQE levels and those ready for a step up to Senior Counsel position.
  • Possess significant experience of drafting and negotiating a broad range of complex commercial contracts- preferably with a focus on software, technology and media services.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent commercial acumen – understanding commercial realities/priorities of the business and able to give balanced views on risk.
  • Able to manage complexity, making sense of complex, high volume information to effectively solve problems.
  • Able to demonstrate and emphasis on excellence - pursuing goals with a sense of urgency, energy and enthusiasm.
  • Solutions focused approach


Start date: Ideally ASAP, However, if you have a notice period, they can wait until Septeber 2024 if the ideal caniddate had a longer notice.


Location/ Office working: Central London location - 3 days a week in the office.

The team are strong on cross team collaboration and legal presence and 3 days a week in the office is ideal. If slightly more flexibility is required but you can attend the office weekly, please still get in touch if you have interest in the role.


Salary: Highly dependent on PQE level and experience.

Please note, it is not possible to structure this contract on a daily rate.
